It seems like Bronny James will leave USC, whether for the NBA draft or a transfer to Duquesne. Last Friday, he announced that he had entered the draft while maintaining his eligibility to play college basketball. Also, he placed his name in the NCAA transfer portal.
According to a bookie guide to March Madness, James recently finished his first year at USC, a school that has changed coaches since Andy Enfield departed for SMU; Eric Musselman, formerly of Arkansas, is the new head coach.
During a USC practice on July 24, James had a cardiac collapse and had surgery to correct a congenital heart abnormality. He returned to action on December 10 after receiving the all-clear in late November.
Averaging 19.4 minutes per game, James had 4.8 points, 2.8 boards, and 2.1 assists. He had a rough go of it after enduring a horrific tragedy that cut short his offseason. Still, he occasionally showed flashes of his potential, most notably against an Arizona squad that secured the No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament: 11 points, 6 assists, and five rebounds.
Bronny James Considering Duquesne Transfer
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, James would have to get the OK from the NBA’s fitness-to-play panel if he wanted to go that route. That being the case, he cannot participate in team drills or the Chicago draft combine in May.
According to pay per head bookie experts, the deadline for James to decide whether to remain in the draft or remove his name from consideration and continue his education is May 31. Since James has ties to Joyce, attending Duquesne would be a logical choice if he continued his education. However, his decision will be revealed soon enough.
Duquesne most recently appeared in the NCAA tournament, winning the first round over BYU. They are also the defending Atlantic 10 champions.
